PUBLIC SCHOOLS: All schools in South Carolina are required to operate a minimum of 180 days per school year. The school year normally begins during the last of August or first of September and ends the last of May or first of June. In order for your child to enter a school he or she must be at least six years old by November 1 of the current school year, have a valid birth certificate and a vaccination certificate. The immunizations may be performed by their own doctor of Health Department and will be accepted if it includes the following:

Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus (DPT) Vaccine- 3 doses of DPT vaccine with the last given since the 4th birthday. An additional DPT or DT is required prior to school entry if last dose was given before the 4th birthday.

Polio Vaccine- 3 doses of oral vaccine. An additional dose of Trivalent is required prior to school entry if last dose was given before 4th birthday.

Rubella (Measles) Vaccine- One dose of vaccine or positive diagnosis. Vaccine required if in doubt. Not required past ten years of age.

TB- Skin Test, one test recommended since 4th birthday. (Mantoux method recommended).
